The Strand Study Bible

Written From Babylon (Rome) II PETER Judas in Acts 1:25 that he went to “ his own place .” God did not send Judas to Hell; Judas sent himself; he went to “ his own place .” Jesus said in John 5:40, “ Ye will not come to me, that ye might have life .” Man is the one who chooses his own destiny, not God. According to Genesis 4: 1- 7 , Cain knew God desired a lamb from his hands, not crops. He even gave Cain another chance to correct his mistake when He said to him, “ If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? ” But alas, Cain still said no, and in so doing sent himself to Hell ( Rom 9:22 ). Meaning: Nobody, not even God, controls the freewill of man ( Gen 2:17a ). The only thing God controls is circumstances, which He uses to influence (not control) man (Prov 21:1 and Isa 44:28-45:5). NOTE – Not even the devil can “make you do it” (as Flip Wilson once suggested). The Devil can suggest things to you and try to influence you, but he cannot control your will. If you end up in Hell, it won’t be because God sent you there. 3:10 God is going to “renovate” the heavens and the earth , not destroy them ( Isa 65:17 and Rev 20:11b ). Like a refiner who refines precious metals by heating them up, God is going to purify this ole earth via fervent heat, not destroy it. Clarence Larkin in The Book of Revelation notes: Even though He is about to bring great judgments upon it, He will not destroy it, but it shall pass through those judgments safely. 3 3:12 Officially, the “ DAY OF G O D ” ( Isa 2:12 & 61:2) is an extended period of time that begins with the onset of the Great Tribulation and ends 3½ years later with the personal return of JESUS CHRIST (I Thess 5:1-3). 2111
