I PETER 1:8 - 2:5
2094
Written From Babylon (Rome)
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. The OT writers did not fully understand all they were inspired to write about concerning CHRIST 10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: 11 Searching what, or what manner of time the 1 SPIRIT of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified before- hand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 12 Unto whom it was revealed, 2 that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now report- ed unto you by them that have preached the 3 gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the 4 angels desire to look into. The promise of CHRIST’S Second Coming (Fulfilled - Rev 19:11-21) 13 Wherefore 5 gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the 6 revelation of Jesus Christ; P 14 As obedient children, not 7 fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of 8 conversation; 16 Because it is written, 9 Be ye holy; for I am holy. 17 And if ye call on the Father, 10 who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here 11 in fear: 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received 12 by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious 13 blood of Christ, as of a 14 LAMB without blemish and 15 without spot: 20 16 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 22 Seeing ye have 17 purified your souls in obeying the truth through the 18 SPIRIT unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23 19 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, 20 by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 24 21 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 21 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. 1:10 a What Peter was noting here was that every OT prophet (from Abel to Malachi) was “searching” for the MESSIAH , and longing to know exactly whom that person would be, and at what period of their history He would arise. They were not searching for salvation; they were searching for whom the MESSIAH would be (Mt 13:16-17, Lk 1:67-70, Jn 8:56, Heb 11:13-19,24-26, Acts 3:20-24 & 7:51-52 & 10:42-43), and at what point He would come. They already knew about salvation (Gen 3:15/Titus 1:2, Rev 13:8 & Gen 3:21/Jn 1:29 & Gen 4:4/Lk 11:49-51 & Gen 5:21-24/Jude 14 & Gen 6:8/I Pet 3:18-20 and II Pet 2:5 & Gen 12:3 & 18:18/Gal 3:6-8 & Gen 13:15-16 & Gen 15:5 & Gen 17:7-8,19 & Gen 21:12 & Gen 22:8/Gal 3:16, Jn 8:56-58, Rom 4:1-5 and Heb 11:17-19), via the sacrifice of CHRIST (Rom 3:21-26 & 5:19 & 10:1-4 and II Cor 5:21). NOTE - Sadly, there are some within Christendom who would try and use verses 10-12 to prove that the people of the Old Testament knew little, if nothing, about the promise of grace via the Gospel of CHRIST . However, this couldn’t be further from the truth ( Mt 13 : 16- 17 , Lk 2:25 -32,36- 38 , Jn 1:7 & 4 :37- 38 & 8:56 , Acts 3 :20- 24 & 7 :51- 52 & 10 :42- 43 and Rom 1:2 ). While it
