EXODUS 17:12
out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. 28 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? 29 See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. 30 So the people rested on the seventh day. 31 And the house of Israel called the name thereof 1 MANNA : and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of 2 it was like wafers made with honey. 32 And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. 33 And Moses said unto Aaron, 3 Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations. 34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. 35 And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, 4 until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan. 36 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah. Exodus 17 The children of Israel journey from the Wilderness of Sin to Dophkah and Alush (Num 33:12,13) and then on to Rephidim (8th, 9th, and 10th stations) (S/A - Num 33:12-14) Date - 1487 BC/AM 2513 1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in 5 Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.

Israel’s fifth complaint against Moses (No water)
2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD? 3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? 4 And Moses cried unto the LORD, say- ing, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me. 5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt 6 smite the ROCK , and there shall come WATER out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the name of the place 7 Massah, and 8 Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and be- cause they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not? Amalek wars against Israel 8 Then came 9 Amalek, 10 and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. 10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and 11 Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 ButMoses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he 16:34 Along with a written copy of the Law (Exo 25:16,21 & 27:21 & 40:20) and Aaron’s rod (Num 17:10), a pot of manna was to be kept within the Ark of the Covenant under the Mercy Seat (Exo 25:10-22). 17:6 There are three words here in Exodus 17:6 that point directly to CHRIST and His work on the cross: (1) rock ; (2) smite ; and (3) water . You will note that in order for the rock (a picture of CHRIST – I Cor 10:4) to bring forth water (a picture of salvation – Jn 4:10,14, I Cor 10:4 and Rev 21:6 & 22:17) it had to be smitten once (a picture of Jesus being smitten once for our sins on Calvary – Zech 13:7 and Heb 9:11-12,24-28). Warning: Don’t break that picture (once saved–always saved; the doctrine of eternal security – Psa 37:28 & 125:1,2 , Jn 10:28-29 , Phil 1:6 , II Tim 1:12 , Eph 1:13-14 & 4:30 , and Heb 7:25 ) if your desire is to serve God in the Land of Total Surrender ( Num 20:11 -12). 17:9 Joshua’s name means “ Jehovah is salvation.” He is referred to 2 times in the NT (Acts 7:45 and Heb 4:8). Joshua is probably
