II THESSALONIANS 2:10 - 3:11
2017
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; 1 because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation 2 through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14 Whereunto he 3 called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold 4 the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. 16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 17 Comfort your hearts, 5 and stablish you in every good word and work.
2 7 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. 3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and 8 keep you from evil. 4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. 5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the 9 patient waiting for CHRIST . P How to treat backslidden Christians 6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye 10 withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: 11 for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; 8 Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with 12 labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: 9 Not because we have not 13 power, but to make ourselves an 11 ensample unto you to follow us. 10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, 14 neither should he eat.

II Thessalonians 3 Paul covets their prayers Date Written - c. AD 52
1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, 6 that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: 11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are 15 busybodies. 2:10 Paul reminds us that in the last days during the rise of the Antichrist (right before the return of Jesus) “deception” ( deceivableness ) will be at an all time high ( Lk 18:8 - point #4). NOTE – There are two schools of thought concerning this portion of scripture (vs 10-12). One school of thought suggests that those who have heard the gospel and do not get saved prior to the Rapture have no hope of being saved after the Rapture. Herb Vander Lugt in Understanding the Endtimes notes: The other school of thought believes that these verses (10-12) are not talking about people who reject the truth before the Rapture, but those who reject the truth during the Tribulation Period (Daniel’s Seventieth Week – Dan 9:24-27). Thus, if a person refuses to trust Christ prior to the Rapture, there is still hope that he will trust Christ after the Rapture. Only those who deliberately choose to follow the Devil’s man (vs 3-9) and receive his mark (Rev 13:11-18) will be deceived by means of the False Prophet’s miracles. 2:13 Some of our friends within Christiendom try to use this verse to prove that God elects ( chosen ) some people to Heaven and others to Hell. However, according to II Peter 3:9, God has no random favorites and is no respector of persons (Jms 2:1, Lev 19:15, Deut 1:17 and Mt 22:16). According to the teaching of the Scriptures, Jesus died for “everyone’s” sins (II Cor 5:14-15, Jn 1:29, I Tim 2:6 & 4:10 and I Jn 2:2) and offers salvation freely to “all” ( Mt 28:19 a , Lk 2:10, Jn 3:16 & 12:32, Rom 10:13 and I Jn 5:1). God “chooses” (elects) people to salvation based on His foreknowledge (His prior knowledge of all things), not predestination ( I Pet 1:2 a , Rom 8:29 b , Psa 139:16 and I Thes 1:4 ). 3:10 According to the Bible, if a man won’t work, neither should he eat . And if he doesn’t eat, his family doesn’t eat. That is why For nonbelievers, the fact that Christ could return at any moment has ominous overtones. The Bible has a solemn warning to those who have heard the gospel and have not believed. Paul declared that when the Antichrist is revealed, it may be too late for a change of mind: 1
“work” comes before “family” in the priority of things ( Gen 2:8a and Prov 9:1 – Pillar #1). 1 De Haan II, M.R. Understanding the Endtimes , Grand Rapids, MI, RBC Ministries, 2004. Print.
