I THESSALONIANS 5:6 - 5:28

2009

1 children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, 2 as do others; but let us 3 watch and be sober. 7 4 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be 5 sober, 6 putting on the breastplate of 7 faith and love; and for an 8 helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us to 9 WRATH , but to obtain salvation by our 10 LORD JESUS CHRIST , P 10 11 WHO died for us, that, whether we wake or 12 sleep, we should live together with him. 11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. 12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, 13 and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; 13 14 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. 15 And be at peace among yourselves. 14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are 16 unruly, comfort the 17 feebleminded, support the 18 weak, be patient toward all men. 15 See that none 19 render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 20 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concern- ing you. 19 Quench not the 21 SPIRIT . 20 Despise not 22 prophesyings.

21 23 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 24 Abstain from all appearance of evil. The promise of CHRIST’S return (Rapture) (Fulfilled - Rev 4:1) 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the 25 coming of our LORD JESUS CHRIST . P 24 Faithful is he that 26 calleth you, 27 who also will do it. 25 Brethren, pray for us. 26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. 27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren. 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

Paul sends a letter to Thessalonica from Corinth Map #46 5:9 It is unthinkable ( For God hath not appointed us to WRATH ) to believe Jesus would put His sweet bride (the Church - Eph 5:23-32) through Daniel’s Seventieth Week (the Seven-year Tribulation Period). 5:12 Submission to those in spiritual authority ( and are over you in the Lord ) is the plea here. As long as a pastor isn’t asking the people to do something unbiblical, illegal, or immoral, the people within that local congregation are obligated to “yield” themselves to his leadership. The “buck” of authority has to stop somewhere. According to the qualifications of a pastor found in I Timothy 3, the God-given right to lead and rule within a local assembly stops with the pastor ( I Tim 3:5 a,b and Heb 13:7 a ). 5:17 David Jeremiah in Prayer, the Great Adventure notes: I have found that prayer is the most wonderful gift in God’s great bag of blessings. 1 THE ADAGE IS TRUE: We need to be pray-pared at all times NOTE – There are six reasons why believers have a difficult time “praying without ceasing:”

1. Ignorance ; they don’t know how to pray ( Lk 11:1 ) 2. Indifference ; they don’t care if they pray (Mt 6:5) 3. Iniquity ; they can’t pray because of sin (Mt 6:14-15 and Job 35:13 ) 4 Integrity ; they don’t schedule time to pray ( Dan 6:10 ) 5. Infirmity ; they don’t feel like praying (Lk 18:1) 6. Inattentive ; they don’t watch for their adversity (I Pet 5:8 and Eph 6:10-18)
