II CORINTHIANS 10:9 - 11:12

9 That I may not seem as if I would ter- rify you by 1 letters. 10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his 2 bodily presence is weak, and his 3 speech contemptible. 11 Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. 12 4 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with- some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 13 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 14 For we stretch not ourselves 5 beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ: 15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, 6 of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is in- creased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, 16 To preach the gospel in the regions be- yond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand. 17 But 7 he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 18 8 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth. II Corinthians 11 Paul cares for his church at Corinth Date Written - Fall of AD 57 1 Would to God ye could bear with me a
little in my 9 folly: and indeed bear with me. 2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, 10 that I may present you as 11 a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the 12 serpent beguiled Eve through his sub- tilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth anoth- er Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. 5 For I suppose 13 I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles. 6 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things. 7 Have I committed an offence in abas- ing myself that ye might be exalted, be- cause I have preached to you the gospel of God freely? 8 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service. 9 14 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me 15 the breth- ren which came fromMacedonia supplied: 16 and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself. 10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia. 11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth. 12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire

11:3 Every Christian should fear being fooled; fooled by “another Jesus” (such as: Jim Jones, Yisrayl Hawkins, David Koresh, Herbert Armstrong, and Lord Maitreya, to name a few), fooled by “another spirit” (such as: the spirit Gabriel to Muhammad - Gen 16:10 , or the spirit Moroni to Joseph Smith - Psa 82:6 ), fooled by “another gospel” (which according to Paul is not another Gospel – Gal 1: 7- 8b and Rom 1:16 ), fooled by “another thought” (Grecian thought: atheism , evolution , and humanism - Colo 2:8 ), fooled by “religious intellectualism” ( Gnosticism – Colo 2:16 -17 and Phil 3:1-8). God works through those who keep things simple ( I Cor 1: 26- 27-28 ). NOTE – Religious intellectualism is a tactic of the Devil that keeps Christians from pursuing “ the simplicity that is in Christ .” Although no one was more intellectual than Paul (Acts 22:1-3), Paul determined not to know anything “ save Jesus Christ, and him crucified ” (I Cor 2:1-2). The depth of a Christian’s concern for the lost will become the measure of his Christianity ( Mt 28:19a ). 11:7 a Paul admitted that he had “sinned” ( I committed an offense ) by not requiring the Corinthian church to tithe (II Cor 12:13). 11:7 b Paul refused to take the tithe ( I have preached to you the gospel of God freely ) from from three churches: 1. The church of Corinth (I Cor 9:18 and II Cor 11:7-9 & 12:13,16) 2. The church of Thessalonicia (I Thess 2:6-9 and II Thess 3:8) 3. The church of Ephesus (Acts 20:33-35) 11:9 The brethren from Philippi ( which came from Macedonia ) met the needs of Paul more than any other church in Northern Greece ( Macedonia )(Phil 4:10).
