I CORINTHIANS 6:10 - 7:11
1889
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunk- ards, nor 1 revilers, nor extortioners, shall 2 inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were 3 some of you: 4 but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. Guidelines for Christian liberty: 12 5 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not 6 expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be 7 brought under the power of any. 13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: 8 but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornica- tion, 9 but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. The promise of a resurrected body for N.T. saints (Fulfilled - Rev 4:2) 14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, 10 and will also raise up us by his own power. P 15 11 Know ye not that your bodies are the 12 members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? 13 God forbid. 16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? 14 for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is 15 one spirit. 18 16 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the HOLY GHOST which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are 17 bought with a price: there- fore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. I Corinthians 7 1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to 18 touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. It is wrong to sexually reject one’s partner 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 5 19 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to 20 fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for 21 your incontinency. 6 But I speak this by permission, 22 and not of commandment. Paul favors celibacy; approves marriage 7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. 8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. 9 But if they cannot 23 contain, let them marry: for it is better tomarry than to 24 burn. Paul unequivocally opposes divorce 10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: Separation is permitted until reconciliation is accomplished 11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her hus- band: and let not the husband put away his wife.

6:10 This word ( revilers ) comes from the Greek word OοLGοUοL ( loidoroi ) and means “ to abuse verbally; to bad mouth authority .” This word is used only 8 times in the entire New Testament (Jn 9:28, Acts 23:4-5, I Cor 4:12 & 5:11 & 6:10, I Pet 2:23 and I Tim 5:14). Christians are admonished to submit to authorities (Rom 13), not curse them. 6:12 Paul boldly admitted that he was not under any man or faith movement, any denominational rule, or any religious tradition, and that he had “total liberty” to live for Christ as he thought best (the meaning behind “ All things are lawful unto me ”). However, just because something may be “permissible” for the believer to do does not mean he or she should do it. For example, some believers don’t think it’s wrong to consume alcohol, because they’ve never been convicted about it. In fact, they actually believe Scripture allows them the right to drink, as long as it’s in moderation (Eph 5:18, Jn 2:1-10 and I Tim 5:23). However, should a Christian drink alcohol just because he believes he has the right to do so? Others, on the other hand, don’t see anything wrong with cussing, chewing tobacco, overeating, eating whatever they want, going to Hollywood movies, bringing Hollywood movies home, watching anything and everything on TV, reading different versions
