ROMANS 10:6 - 11:8

6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, 1 Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above: ) 7 Or, 1 Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? 1 The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD JESUS , and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confes- sion is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, 2 Whosoever believeth on HIM shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same 3 LORD over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 4 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the 5 LORD ( JESUS ) shall be saved. Faith (salvation) can only come after hearing the Word of God 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear 6 without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be 7 sent? as it is written, 8 How beau- tiful are the 9 feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, 10 and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gos- pel. For Esaias saith, 11 Lord, who hath be- lieved 12 our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, 13 their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, 14 I will provoke you to jeal- ousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, 15 I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. 21 But to Israel he saith, 15 All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a dis- obedient and gainsaying people. Romans 11 God will never completely forsake 1 I say then, 16 Hath God cast away his people? 17 God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, 3 18 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. 4 But what saith the answer of GOD unto him? 19 I have reserved to myself sev- en thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. 5 Even so then at this present time also there is a 20 remnant according to the 21 election of grace. 6 22 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. Israel blinded - Gentiles enlightened 7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded. 8 (According as it is written, 23 God hath given them the spirit of slumber, 24 eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. 10:9 Sadly, some “Lordship Salvation” advocates will use this verse to prove their point that JESUS must become the “Lord” of your life before you can be saved. They claim that unbelievers must count the cost of discipleship and decide if they are willing to pay the price in order to obtain eternal life. One such advocate has written a book in which he gives the following answer to the question “What [is] the minimum amount of doctrine or belief a person [has] to have to be a Christian?” He notes:

The minimum amount a person must believe to be a Christian is everything , and the minimum amount a person must give is all . I say, “You must give it all. You cannot hold back even a fraction of a percentage of yourself. Every sin must be abandoned. Every false thought must be repudiated. You must be the Lord’s entirely.” 1 Another advocate of “Lordship Salvation” notes: Saving faith is a commitment to leave sin and follow Jesus Christ at all costs. 2
