EXODUS 1:22

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour. The birth o f Amm inadab - c. 1583 BC The death of Kohath - c. 1575 BC Another king ( Amenhotep I ) arises 15 And the 6 king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was 7 Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: 16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, 8 then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. 17 But the midwives 9 feared God, 10 and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. 18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? 19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them. 20 Therefore 11 God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. 21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he 12 made them houses. 22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall- save alive.

Historical Note - India’s written history began sometime between 1600-1500 BC in which the Aryans (i.e., Indo-Europeans) are said to have invaded the exist- ing culture and then settled there. Historical Note - Egyptian history continued c. 1600 BC with the New Kingdom Period in which the great- est period of Egyptian history was about to begin. For almost 130 years (from c. 1730 -1600 BC) the Hyksos (non-Egyptian rulers of Egypt during Joseph’s days) kept the descendents of Mizraim (the real Egyptians) sub- dued and limited to an area surroundingThebes. Then c. 1600 BC the non-Egyptian rulers (called the Shepherd kings, or Hyksos) had grown fat and prosperous and lost control to the real Egyptians, who came up from Thebes. Driving out the Hyksos and enslaving Joseph’s descendants, the real Egyptians (Mizraim’s descen- dants) created an absolute government based on a pow- erful army. This period’s first pharoah was Ahmose I (c. 1595-1570 BC) A new king over Egypt (Ahmose I) arises Date - c. 1595 BC/AM 2405 8 Now there arose up 1 a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. 9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: 10 Come on, let us 2 deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. 11 Therefore they did set over them task- masters to 3 afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, 4 Pithom and 5 Raamses. 12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. 13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:

1:8 According to the Bible, the first EGYPTIAN people came from Adam and Eve’s descendants. They gave us the pyramids. Then came the Flood (c. 2344 BC) and with it the annihilation of the first known Egyptian civilization . Around 100 years after the event of the Flood (after the Tower of Babel incident in Genesis 11:3-9 around 2243 BC) the descendants of Noah’s grandson (Mizraim) began to journey toward Egypt. By c. 2125 BC (or, 119 years later) Mizraim’s descendants stumbled upon the ancient pyramids that were constructed before the Flood and began to repopulate the Egyptian area once again. For the next 350 years (from c. 2125-1775 BC) Mizraim’s descendants would build and rebuild Egypt and become known as Egypt’s second Egyptian civilization . Then around 1730 BC Egypt suffered a humiliating invasion from a non-Egyptian people called the Hyksos (or, Shepherd Kings). For the next 130 years (from c. 1730-1600 BC) the Hyksos would keep the descendants of Mizraim subdued and limited to a small area surrounding Thebes. Then around 1600 BC Egyptian nationalism reasserted itself and the Hyksos were overthrown. It was at this time that there arose a new king (Ahmose I, of Mizraim’s descendants) over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. The Birth of Amminadab Amminadab’s name means “my people are willing or noble.” He is referred to 2 times in the NT (Mt 1:4 and Lk 3:33). Amminadab is the 38th generation from CHRIST (Num 1:7 & 2:3 and Ruth 4:19-20). 1:19 It appears here that the Egyptian “ midwives ” lied to Pharaoh and then were blessed of God for doing so. However, neither point is true. First of all, God hates lying (Prov 6:16-17); He even sends people to Hell for it (Rev 21:8). Plus, God doesn’t bless what He curses. Secondly, the midwives didn’t lie. They told the truth (speaking in generalities) without having to tell the whole truth. Jesus Himself warned us to be cautiously wise in all we say and do (Mt 10:16).
