Paul’s First Missionary Journey

35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, 1 Thou shalt not suffer thine 2 HOLY ONE to see corruption. 36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, 3 fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: 37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. 38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this 4 MAN is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: 39 And by him all that believe are justi- fied from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. 40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets; 41 5 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a WORK in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise be- lieve, though a man declare it unto you. 42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. 43 Now when the congregation was bro- ken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. 44 And the next sabbath day came al- most the whole city together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multi- tudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. 46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should 6 first have been spoken to you: 7 we 8 turn to the Gentiles. PF 47 For so hath the LORD commanded us, saying, 9 I have set thee to be a 10 LIGHT

of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. PF 48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. 49 And the word of the Lord was pub- lished throughout all the region. The Jews expel Paul and Barnabas from Antioch of Pisidia 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, 11 and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts. 51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium. 52 And the disciples were filled with joy, 12 and with the Holy Ghost. Acts 14 Paul and Barnabas preach in Iconium Date - AD 46 1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the syna- gogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. 2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affect- ed against the brethren. The tenth sign gift to the Jews (Paul and Barnabas perform miracles in Iconium - Mk 16:15-20) 3 Long time therefore abode they speak- ing boldly in the Lord, which gave tes- timony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

4 But the multitude of the city was divid- ed: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. 13:41 According to Acts 13:37-41, Habakkuk 1:5 anticipated the redemptive “ WORK ” of CHRIST ( Exo 14:13,30-31 , Jn 6:28- 29 , Heb 6:1 c and Titus 3:5 a ). 13:48 The term “ ordained to eternal life ” leads some to believe that God predestines (ordains) some to go to Heaven and others to go to Hell. However, according to both Peter ( I Pet 1:2a ) and Paul ( Rom 8:29a,b,c and Eph 1:4-5 ), both predestination and election are based on the foreknowledge of God (God’s prior knowledge of all things). Thus, foreknowledge ( Psa 139:16 ) is the basis of our election (being ordained to eternal life – Rom 9:22 and I Thess 1:4 ), not predestination ( Mt 28:19a , Romans 9 Subject Head and II Thess 2:13 ). 14:4 The first twelve apostles weren’t the only apostles. Both Paul and Barnabas were apostles as well (Acts 14:14).
