PP 12:21 However, Jesus would not see them. Why? Because He was too close to His passion –the purpose for which He had come into the world. There are priorities in life that must be followed. THE ADAGE IS TRUE: Sometimes good things must be set aside for better things 12:24 Our destiny is compared to a “grain of wheat” ( corn of wheat ). Carol Kent in When I Lay My Isaac Down notes:
A seed has to give up its familiar form as a seed, allow itself to be buried in the dark earth, and trust that God will bring new life – even lush life – when the seed sprouts. In the same way, we need to be willing to give up whatever is most familiar, comfortable, and precious to us, allow ourselves to sink into the darkness, and trust God to bring life out of what feels like death. This is the mystery of fruitfulness: Life multiplied many times over from what seems like death. 1
THE ADAGE IS TRUE: Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end 12:27 During the last three hours that our LORD would be on the cross, due to our sins, He would be separated from the FATHER and the HOLY SPIRIT for the first time in all eternity past ( Psa 22:1 ). “ Save me from this hour ” was the awful agony of
this approaching separation that gripped our Savior’s emotions here. 1 Kent, Carol. When I Lay My Isaac Down , Canada, Navpress, 2004. Print.
