the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. 51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the 5 SON OF MAN . John 2 CHRIST’S first miracle - (Turning water into wine, i.e., pure grape juice) Date - AD 28/AM 4028 1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman , what have I to do with thee ? mine hour is not yet come . 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing 6 two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water . And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now , and bear unto the 7 governor of the feast . And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. 11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
1. Deut 18:15,18- 19 & Lk 24:25-27 2. Note - What Jesus meant here was: What a surprise ( Behold )... an honest man from the likes of Jacob. Jacob, the father of Israel, was not the kind of person you’d want to do business with. A born liar, who’s life was marked by fraud and deceit, Jacob lied to get his father’s blessings, as he cheated his older brother (Esau) out of his rightful inheritance. The reason for the reference to Jacob’s ladder (Gen 28:12) in verse 51 was to remind Nathanael that the “Truth of Heaven” (Jesus - Jn 14:6) was willing to come to earth and offer mercy and forgiveness through a people who were born with bad blood running through their veins. It goes to show you how far the God of Heaven was willing to “descend” just to bring people like Jacob (and us) into His family. 3. Psa 2:7,12, Isa 7:14 & 9:6 & Dan 3:25 & 7:13 & 9:25-26 & Prov 30:4

CHRIST enters Cana of Galilee Map #8 44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, 1 of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, 2 Behold an Israelite indeed , in whom is no guile! 48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. 49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the 3 SON OF GOD ; thou art the 4 KING OF ISRAEL . 50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under

1:49 The reason Nathanael recognized Jesus to be the CHRIST ( thou art the SON OF GOD ) is because he understood the attributes of God. Jesus (in Cana) and Nathanael (in Bethsaida) were separated by a span of seven miles when Jesus claimed to have recognized this stranger under a fig tree. Nathanael, who understood the attributes of deity, met a man whose eyes could pierce terrain. Nathanael thus admitted, “This is omniscience; hence, this must be the Christ, the long-awaited promised OT MESSIAH ,” whereupon he bowed to worship the fact of deity thus displayed by Jesus ( Colo 2:9 ). M. Anderson in The Trinity notes:
The title ‘Son of God’ is the same as the title ‘Word of God’. Both refer to the One who is the visible expression of the invisible God, not only when He became incarnate and was given the name Jesus, but in His essential being throughout eternity. 1
