LUKE LUKE 24:27 Of the 3,197 prophecies in the Old Testament, 706 of them deal with CHRIST . Which means, almost one out of every four prophesies in the Old Testament points to CHRIST . After all, what is the purpose of the Bible but to relate to mankind what was necessary to renew our relationship with our Creator? And what is this necessary element? JESUS CHRIST , God’s promise of salvation. From Genesis to Revelation, the central message of the Bible does not change; it is the promise and fulfillment of CHRIST . Therefore, the key to understanding Scripture, as God intended, is to realize His common theme, which is JESUS CHRIST , and to study truth concerning Him ( Rev 1:8 ). NOTE – Dr. Peter Stone, in his book Science Speaks , says that by applying the science of probability to just eight of those 706 prophecies: “we find that the chance that any man might have lived down to the present time and fulfilled all eight prophecies is 1 in 10 17 .” 1 That’s one chance in 100 quadrillion. 24:32 Jesus knows what encourages us ( Did not our heart burn within us ). Truths about Him ( Lk 24:27 ) – who He is (He’s God; He arose from the dead), what He did (He died for our sins), and what He is going to do for us in the future (due to the fact that He paid for our sins in full) is what encourages us to live for Him ( PSALMS “MINI” SERIES). Verse 27 says, “ And beginning at Moses (Genesis – Deuteronomy) and all the prophets (Joshua – Malachi), he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” No doubt, Jesus started at Genesis 1:1 with these two disciples and went from there. Why Genesis 1:1? Genesis 1:1 points to His deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ]. NOTE – According to I Corinthians 15:1-4, the Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ – plus nothing, minus nothing. Anyone can be saved who accepts the “facts” behind the actual death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. The “facts” behind the gospel are: 1. Christ died for our sins – Meaning: Someone or something else would have to be sacrificed in order to secure our salvation; man cannot save himself via his own good works [the “fact” behind His death – Jn 1:29] 2. Christ was buried – Meaning: The price for salvation was paid in full; salvation would be complete, as man would be guaranteed a bright future [the “fact” behind His burial – I Cor 15:1 - point #2] 3. Christ rose again – Meaning: Christ is, was, and always will be God (deity), and if God, then able to keep His promise to save us [the “fact” behind His resurrection – Rom 1:4 ] Thus, all OT scripture concerning CHRIST will point to either His death, burial , or resurrection . For example, note the scripture concerning Jesus just in Genesis : Genesis 1:1,26 ( God of creation - Colo 1:16-17) – points to Christ’s deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 1:3 ( pre-existing light - Jn 1:4-9) – points to Christ’s eternality ( deity ) [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 3:15 (her seed - Mt 1:23) – points to Christ’s miraculous birth ( deity ) [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 3:15 ( seed - Gal 3:16) – points to Christ’s birth and eventual sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 3:21 ( coats of skins - Jn 1:29) – points to Christ’s sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 4:4 ( offering - Jn 1:29) – points to Christ’s sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 8:20 ( burnt offering - Jn 1:29) – points to Christ’s sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 12:3 ( blessed - Gal 3:6-8) – points to the entire Gospel [the “fact” behind His death , burial , and resurrection ] Genesis 13:15-16 ( seed - Gal 3:16) – points to Christ’s birth and eventual sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 15:5-6 ( seed - Gal 3:16) – points to Christ’s birth and eventual sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 16:7-13 ( Angel of the Lord - Exo 3:1-14/Jn 8:56-59) – points to Christ’s deity (vs 13) via His “kindness,” which is a moral attribute of God ( Rom 1:20b , point #5) [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 17:1 ( Almighty God - Exo 6:3) – points to Christ’s deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 18:1 ( LORD - Exo 6:3) – points to Christ’s deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 21:12-20 ( Angel of God - Exo 3:1-14/Jn 8:56-59 and Gal 4:14) – points to Christ’s deity (vs 18) via His “faithfulness,” which is a moral attribute of God ( Rom 1:20b , point #5) [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 22:1-18 ( Angel of the Lord - Exo 3:1-14/Jn 8:56-59) – points to Christ’s “omnipotence” (By myself have I sworn – vs 16), which is a natural attribute of God ( Rom 1:20b , point #4) [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 28:13 ( LORD - Jn 20:26-28) – points to Christ’s deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 28:13-14 ( seed - Gal 3:16) – points to Christ’s birth and eventual sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 28:14 ( blessed - Gal 3:6-8) – points to the entire Gospel [the “fact” behind His death , burial , and resurrection ] Genesis 31:3-13 ( Angel of God - Exo 3:1-14/Jn 8:56-59 and Gal 4:14) – points to Christ’s deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 32:24-30 ( Man/Angel - Hos 12:3-4) – points to Christ’s deity (vs 30) [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 35:1-3,9-11 ( God Almighty - Exo 6:3) – points to Christ’s deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 35:12 ( seed - Gal 3:16) – points to Christ’s birth and eventual sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 48:3-4 ( God Almighty - Exo 6:3) – points to Christ’s deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 49:9 ( lion - Rev 5:5) – points to Christ’s birth and eventual sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 49:10 ( shiloh - Jere 23:5-6) – points to Christ’s deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] Genesis 49:24 ( shepherd - Jn 10:11) – points to Christ’s birth and eventual sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 49:24 ( stone - I Pet 2:4-6) – points to Christ’s birth and eventual sacrificial death [the “fact” behind His death ] Genesis 49:25 ( God Almighty - Exo 6:3) – points to Christ’s deity [the “fact” behind His resurrection ] 1 Stoner, Peter.
