LUKE 9:36
LUKE 9:52

44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the 2 SON OF MAN shall be delivered into the hands of men . P 45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying. CHRIST speaks of humility and forgiveness (S/A - Mt 18:1-11 & Mk 9:33-37) 46 Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest. 47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, 48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is 3 least among you all, the same shall be great . CHRIST rebukes John (S/A - Mk 9:38-41) 49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, 4 because he followeth not with us. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: 5 for he that is not against us is for us . CHRIST heals a demon possessed boy at Caesarea (S/A - Mt 17:14-23 & Mk 9:14-32) 37 And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him. 38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. 39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. 40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. 41 And Jesus answering said, O faith- less and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither . 42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. 43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,

Homer, the blind poet of Greece (c. 700 BC), once noted: There is strength within the union of even the sorriest of men. 1 Unity, despite our diversity, is all that is needed to accomplish the Great Commission (Mt 28:18-20), which God has called every Christian to fulfill. John R. Rice in the Rice Reference Bible notes:
We are to be glad for everyone who loves the Lord Jesus and does His work. Though there be minor differences in doctrine and practice, Christ has other sheep…which are not of this fold who are dear to Him (Jn 10:16). He wants to unite them with us. 2
9:57 Most believers have no idea what it means to follow Jesus . In order to follow CHRIST one must: 1. Count the cost (vs 58 and Lk 14:25-33) True discipleship demands unconditional follow ship (Mt 16:24-25), giving up what others consider necessities. Thus this disciple’s request to “suffer me first to go and bury my father” (vs 59) demonstrated he felt discipleship was something he could pick up or lay down at will. It was not. The time to be about the Father’s business was now. Proclaiming the Gospel can’t wait. The spiritually dead can bury the physically dead (vs 60).
2. Reach the lost (vs 59-60 and Mt 4:19) 3. Finish the course (vs 61-62 and Lk 9:51) Divided interests are not an option ( Jms 1:8 ).
