Parable #13 - The heart [A lesson for the saved - Learn to mature by having the “right” heart] (S/A - Mt 15:10-20 & Mk 7:14-23)
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a 6 ROCK . 49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great . Luke 7 CHRIST heals the centurion’s servant (S/A - Mt 8:5-13) Date - AD 30 1 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum. 2 And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die. 3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant. 4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this: 5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue. 6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: 7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: 7 but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. 8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another,
1. Note - One cannot help someone else become righteous if he is not righteous himself ( Can the blind lead the blind? ). In order to mature ( every one that is perfect ), one must have the “right” heart (vs 45). 2. Jn 13:5-17 3. Mt 7:1-5 4. Mt 12:33-37 5. Prov 15:28 & 16:23 6. I Cor 10:4 & Acts 4:10-12 & II Tim 2:19 & Lk 6:47-48 & Gen 49:24 & Isa 8:14- 15 & Psa 118:22 & Isa 28:16 & Dan 2:34 & I Cor 3:10-11 7. Psa 107:19-20
39 And he spake a parable unto them , 1 Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch? 40 The disciple is not above his master: 2 but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. 41 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye. 43 4 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: 5 for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Parable #3 -The wise and foolish builders [ A lesson for both believers (Lk 6:20,46-49) and unbelievers (Mt 7:21- 27 ) - Never assume that God (i.e., the WORD ) can be separated from His Word (Jn 1:1 and Heb 1:1-2 & 2:1-3). He cannot. ] (S/A - Mt 7:24 - 8:1) 46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
6:46 We must never assume that we can serve God apart from His Word (I Sam 15:1-11,17-23). We cannot. The man whose life collapses under the weight of circumstances is at fault not because he fails to labor, but because he fails to labor “according to the Word” ( and do not the things which I say ). Christ warned us not to separate Him from His Word. To do so is to experience “wreck- n-ruin” instead of “well-being” (Mt 7:21-29). Question: * Do you tithe (I Cor 9:7-14)? If not, don’t call Him Lord. * Do you plant the seed and give the Gospel to the lost (Mt 28:18-20 and Jn 15:8)? If not, don’t call Him Lord.
* Do you pray (Lk 11:1-13) continually (Lk 18:1-8)? If not, don’t call Him Lord. * Do you forgive (Lk 17:3-4) always (Mt 18:21-35)? If not, don’t call Him Lord. * Do you contend for the faith (common salvation - Jude 3)? If not, don’t call Him Lord. * Do you study His Word regularly (II Tim 2:15)? If not, don’t call Him Lord. * Do you attend some local assembly regularly (Heb 10:25)? If not, don’t call Him Lord.
If your answer is “no” to any of these questions, you may want to rethink your position as to whether or not Jesus is your Lord. Parable #3 is aimed at both believers (Lk 6:20,46-49) and unbelievers (Mt 7:21-27) who desire to serve God . The character flaw – assuming you can serve the WORD (God - Jn 1:1,14) without obeying the Word . You cannot (I Sam 15:1-11,17-23). 7:5 THE ADAGE IS TRUE: You can give without loving (Prov 17:23), but you can’t love without giving (Jn 3:16)
