LUKE 2:29
LUKE 2:42
1622
29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in 1 peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy 2 SALVATION , 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; The promise of Gentile enlightenment (Fulfilled - Acts 13:46,47 - AD 45) 32 A 3 LIGHT to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. P 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this 4 CHILD is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; The promise of heartbreak to Mary (Fulfilled - Jn 19:25 - AD 32) 35 (Yea, 5 a sword shall pierce through thy own 6 soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. P 36 And there was one Anna, a 7 prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and
had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers 8 night and day. 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for 9 REDEMPTION in Jerusalem. CHRIST grows up in Nazareth 39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, 10 to their own city Nazareth. 40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, 11 filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. CHRIST (12 years old) and His parents go up to Jerusalem Date - April, AD 11
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem 12 every year at the feast of the passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
2:35 The “ sword ” here refers to the agony that Mary, the mother of Jesus, would have to bear (Jn 19:25). The following poem is dedicated to mothers everywhere: A wife is not always a mother,
and a mother is not always a wife. Yet a wife who becomes a mother, will surely experience more strife. For the wife who becomes a mother, is at risk of becoming hurt twice. Once by her loved one; then by her kids, it continues throughout her life. N ow if you’ve become a mother, without first becoming a wife. Odds are you’ll struggle much harder, than a mother who was first a wife. Still, the wife who becomes a mother,
and the mother who is yet a wife will both know toil and trouble, if children are part of their life. So take it from me and listen well, and I’ll leave you with good advice: Those who long to be mothers… get ready to pay the price! 2:36 This brief reference concerning Anna being of the tribe of Aser (Asher) provides evidence that representatives of the ten northern tribes still existed over 700 years after the Assyrian captivity. William Varner in Jacob’s Dozen notes: In other words, the ten tribes were not really lost as they are often described. 1 2:38 Simeon and Anna ( she – Lk 2:36-38) weren’t the only ones waiting (vs 25) for the “ CONSOLATION OF ISRAEL ” to arrive. Joseph of Arimathea (Mk 15:43), as well as a multitude of others were waiting as well (Mt 13:16-17, Lk 1:67-70, Jn 4:37-38, Acts 3:20-24 & 7:51-52 & 10:42-43, Rom 3:19-22 & 4:1-6,11, Gal 3:6-8, Titus 1:2, II Tim 1:9-10, Heb 11:17-19 and I Pet 1:10-12).
