MARK 12:25

MARK 12:44

1596

35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the 9 Son of David ? The promise of a Kingdom where 36 For David himself said by the 10 HOLY GHOST , 11 The 12 LORD said to my 13 LORD , Sit 14 THOU on MY righthand, till I make thine enemies 15 THY footstool. P 37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then 9 his son ? And the common people heard him gladly. CHRIST scathes the scribes and Pharisees (S/A - Mt 23:1-39 & Lk 20:45-47) 38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces , 39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts : The promise of a JUDGMENT DAY to come (Fulfilled - Rev 20:11-15) 40 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive 16 greater damnation . P The widow’s mite (S/A -Lk 21:1-4) 41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people 17 cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this 18 poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury : 44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living . CHRIST will rule (Fulfilled - Rev 20:4,6)

25 For 1 when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, 2 nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. 26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, 3 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err . What is the greatest commandment (S/A - Mt 22:34-40) 28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? 29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, 4 Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 4 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this , 5 Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself . There is none other commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; 6 and there is none other but he: 33 7 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the 8 kingdom of God . And no man after that durst ask him any question. CHRIST questions the Pharisees (S/A - Mt 22:41-46 & Lk 20:41-44)

1. Note - The resur- rection has never been a question of “if,” but when . 2. Note - Jesus said that Heaven does not hold to marriages ( nor are given in marriage ). 3. Quoted from the OT - Exo 3:6 4. Quoted from the OT - Deut 6:4-5 5. Quoted from the OT - Lev 19:18 Note - Jesus com- mands us to love people and to treat them the way we ourselves would expect to be treated ( Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself ). However, loving people has nothing to do with condoning their sin. Did not our Lord reprimand the woman caught in adultery to “ go and sin no more ”? (Jn 8:1- 11 and Gen 13:13 ). 6. Deut 4:39 & Isa 45:5-6,14 & 46:9 7. I Sam 15:22 & Hos 6:6 & Mic 6:6-8 8. or, “from being saved” 9. Mt 22:42 10. II Pet 1:21 11. 17. II Ki 12:9 18. Prov 13:7

12:41 You can tell volumes about a person by how they give, not “what” they give. Meaningful giving means: * giving without having to be noticed that you gave (vs 41 and Mt 6:1-4) * giving without thinking about how much you gave (vs 42 and Rom 12: 6- 8 ) * giving what’s in you, not what’s on you (God doesn’t need your money; He needs you – vs 44a and II Cor 8:12 and Lk 21:2 ) * living to give, not giving to live (vs 44b and Prov 16:8 ). 12:42 a A “mite” was made of copper and was considered the smallest of the Greek coins. It was worth c. 1 cent. 12:42 b A farthing was another Greek coin, worth c. 2 cents (Mt 5:26). 12:44 It’s amazing what God sees that we don’t see. Whereas men might have noticed an old lady placing her “two cents” into their treasury, God saw this widow woman place her “life” ( even all her living ) into His hands. Although, unbeknownst to her, she had invested her two mites in a losing cause (the Temple would be destroyed thirty-eight years later in AD 70), in reality it was her heart (her life) that she had given to God, not her money ( Mt 6: 19- 20 and Lk 21:2 ).
