MATTHEW 28:7

MATTHEW 28:20

1561

7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, 1 he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. 8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. CHRIST appears to other women 9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail . And they came and held him by the feet, and 2 worshipped him. 10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: 5 go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me . 11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done. 12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, 13 Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. 14 And if this come to the governor’s

ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. 15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. CHRIST commands us to be witnesses (S/A - Mk 16:15-18) 16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where 4 Jesus had appointed them. PF 17 And when they 4 saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. PF 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, 5 All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth . 19 Go ye therefore, and 6 teach all nations, baptizing them in the NA M E of the FATHER , and of the SON , and of the HOLY GHOST : 20 7 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you 8 alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

28:18 This word ( power ) is the Greek word H[οXσLD ( exousia ), and denotes “ authority ,” with the liberty of doing as one pleases. Whereas GXQDPL9 ( dunamis - I Tim 6:15 a ) denotes “ might and power ,” H[οXσLD ( exousia ) denotes “ freedom of action .” Because CHRIST submitted himself to the FATHER (Psa 40:8, Mt 26:39, Isa 50:5 and Jn 8:29) and overcame sin and death (I Cor 15:54- 57), He was given back all the “ freedom of action ” He possessed from eternity past…and more (Phil 2:5-11). All who desire the attention of God and his “authority” must learn to submit to the authorities over them ( Phil 2:9 and Heb 13:17 ). 28:19 a There are three reasons why God does not choose some people to go to Heaven and others to go to Hell: 1. God told us to witness to everybody ( Go ye therefore ) Roy Fish, retired professor of evangelism at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, cited a Methodist author, W.E. Sangster, who said that the easiest way to embarrass 20th-century Christians is to ask them two questions: * When was the last time you personally led someone to Jesus Christ? * When was the last time you tried? Fish went on to note: Very little will stultify evangelism and missions any quicker than the belief that nobody is really lost and everybody is going to make it to heaven sooner or later. 1 Ray Comfort in The Evidence Bible notes: God never called the church to build their church through programs; He called the church to build His Church through “evangelism.” Sadly, too many of God’s people are no longer fishers of men but keepers of the aquarium. H.B. London and Neil Wiseman in Pastors At Risk note: Many pastors are literally at their wits’ end because so many people are simply not involved in the major assignment of the body of Christ – spiritual reproduction. “Tell me how,” pastors plead, “to get my people to realize tha reproduction is not an option; it is expected of every person who calls himself by the name of Christ.” 3 THE ADAGE IS TRUE : Local church evangelism: If that’s not the heartbeat, the hearts not beating Unfortunately, what an unbeliever needs most from Christians he is not getting, which is a clear presentation of the Gospel ( Rom 1:16 , Eph 1:13 and I Cor 15:1-4). John Frame in Apologetics to the Glory of God notes: The apologist must always be ready to present the gospel. He must not get so tangled up in arguments, proofs, defense, and critiques that he neglects to give the unbeliever what he needs most. 4 I HAVE OFTEN said that if you want to see the evangelism section in your local Christian book store, take your magnifying glass with you. Someone once put my claim to the test. When he entered a Christian book store and asked for the “evangelism section,” the salesperson replied, “What’s evangelism?” Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, stated that only 2 percent of today’s church is actively involved in evangelism. 2
