17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, 1 HIMSELF took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. 18 Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side. Then he arose, and 7 rebuked the winds and the sea; 8 and there was a great calm. 27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

1. Quoted from the OT - Isa 53:4 2. Lk 14:25-33 3. Dan 7:13-14 Note - The phrase “Son of Man” occurs 83 times in the NT. 4. or, “spiritually dead” 5. or, “physically dead” 6. Note - In other words, Jesus said to his disciples “ Why are you complaining about your circumstances? I am the God in the storm as well as the God of the storm.” 7. Psa 65:7 & 107:29 8. Psa 89:9 & Isa 50:2 & Nah 1:4 9. Isa 7:14 & 9:6-7 & Psa 2:7 & Jn 10:30-36 10. Gen 18:25-26 & Jud 11:27 & Jn 5:22 & Acts 10:42 & I Tim 4:1,8 & Heb 12:23 & I Pet 4:5 Note - If Christ was not God in the flesh, then why attribute to Him the title of Judge? 11. Rev 20:10 12. Note -Kicking God out of your life ( they besought him that he would depart ) because He “hurt your business” is no reason to kick God out. Maybe your business (raising unclean animals) wasn’t good business after all. Learn to give God the benefit of the doubt, not the boot.

Sea of Galilee

CHRIST crosses the Sea of Galilee - Map #15 29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou 9 SON OF GOD ? art 10 THOU come hither to torment us 11 before the time? 30 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding. 31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine. 32 And he said unto them, Go . And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters. 33 And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told ev- ery thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils. 34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, 12 they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts. 8:24 Sometimes Jesus will take us into a storm (vs 23) and sometimes He will send us into one (Mt 14:22-24). Why? Because storms are good for us. If God can’t test us, He can’t trust us ( Jms 1:3 , I Pet 1:7a,b & 4:1 and I Thess 2:18 ). Max Lucado in Fearless notes: This story sends the not-so-subtle and not-too-popular reminder: getting on board with Christ can mean getting soaked with Christ. Disciples can expect rough seas and stout winds... Christ-followers contract malaria, bury children, and battle addictions, and, as a result, face fears. It’s not the absence of storms that sets us apart. It’s whom we discover in the storm: an unstirred Christ. 1
