About the Book : The book of Matthew presents Jesus as the Son of David (Mt 1:1 and Jere 23:5-6), the Son of Abraham (Mt 1:1 and Gen 12:3 & 15:5), and the King of the Jews (Mt 2:2 and Zeph 3:15), thus proving that JESUS CHRIST is the promised OT MESSIAH . 1:3 There are four women mentioned in Joseph’s genealogy (vs 3,5,6). Two were prostitutes ( Tamar and Rahab), one was a Gentile stranger (Ruth), and the other was an adulteress (Bathsheba). Perhaps the Spirit of God placed these women in Matthew’s genealogy so as to put Jewish pride in its place (Mt 3:7-9). 1:8 Uzziah was Joram’s great-grandson, not his son. For whatever reason Matthew fails to list three other names that are a part of Christ’s genealogy: Ahaziah (son of Jehoram) who begat Jehoash who begat Amaziah who in turn begat Uzziah (II Ki 14:21). 1:11 Jechonias (or, Jehoiachin) was Josiah’s grandson, not his son. According to II Kings 24:6 and I Chronicles 3:16, Josiah begat a son by the name of Jehoiakim, who in turn begat Jechoniah (or, Coniah - Jere 22:24-30). 1483
