THE NEW TESTAMENT AND WORLD HISTORY Force and violence continued to rule Rome as Roman armies made and unmade one Roman emperor after another (Galba, Otho, and Vitellius). Finally Vespasian emerged victorious. Called the Flavian emperors, Vespasian and his two sons (Titus and Domitian) ruled Rome from AD 69-96. Neither Vespasian nor his son Titus persecuted Christians. Titus, brother of Domitian and the older son of Vespasian, was a general at the time of Jerusalem’s destruction in AD 70. Domitian, brother of Titus, was the younger son of Vespasian. He was assassinated.
