ZECHARIAH 10:11

ZECHARIAH 11:15

1439

7 And I will feed the flock of slaugh- ter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two 10 staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock. 8 Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me. 9 Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that 3 that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another. P 10 And I took my staff, even Beauty, 3 and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people. P 11 3 And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD. P 12 And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price 11 thirty pieces of silver. P 13 And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them . 12 And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD. P 14 3 Then I cut asunder mine other staff, even Bands, that I might break the broth- erhood between Judah and Israel. P 15 And the LORD said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd. The promise of CHRIST’S rejection and betrayal for thirty pieces of silver (Fulfilled - Mt 26:15 & 27:9,10 - AD 32)

11 1 And he shall pass through the sea with affliction, and shall smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart away. P 12 1 And I will strengthen them in the LORD; 2 and they shall walk up and down in his name, saith the LORD. P Zechariah 11 The promise of Jerusalem’s destruction in AD 70 (Fulfilled - AD 70) Date Written - 518 BC/AM 3482 1 Open thy doors, O Lebanon, 2 that the fire may devour thy cedars. P 2 Howl, fir tree; 3 for the 4 cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down. P 3 There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; 3 for their glory is spoiled: a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the 5 pride of Jordan is spoiled. P The foolish shepherds who lead God’s flock 4 Thus saith the LORD my God; 6 Feed the flock of the slaughter; 5 Whose 7 possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their 8 own shepherds pity them not. 6 For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neigh- bour’s hand, 3 and into the hand of his 9 king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them. 11:1 This term “ O Lebanon ” is a figure of speech referencing the Temple whose timbers were furnished from the cedars of Lebanon. 11:1-3 The mention of these three specific locations ( Lebanon , Bashan and Jordan ) testifies to the fact that there would one day be a complete devastation throughout the length and breadth of the Promised Land. This was fulfilled in AD 70 when Rome marched throughout the land of Israel slaughtering over one million Jews before destroying Jerusalem. 11:5 Just as the owners of sheep are not guilty of murder when they slay their sheep, so Rome would not “feel” guilty for slaying God’s sheep (Israel), for God had given Israel into their hands. 11:6 Because the people of God courted these foolish prophets, they would court their own “destruction” ( no more pity ). 11:7 Both staves ( Beauty and Bands ) symbolized the return of God’s favor and union of His people during the time when Christ would come to earth. 11:8 It is uncertain as to who these three shepherds were. 11:9 Note the three-fold judgment of God that would fall upon Israel in AD 70 because they rejected their MESSIAH : 1. Famine ( I will not feed you ) 2. Warfare and bloodshed ( cut off ) 3. Internal strife and division ( let the rest eat every one the flesh of another ) 11:12 According to Exodus 21:32, thirty shekels of silver was the price paid for a slave who had been gored by an ox. According to Matthew 26:14-15, CHRIST fulfilled this prophesy. What an insult to the SON OF GOD that He should be betrayed and sold for the mere price of an incapacitated slave. THE ADAGE IS TRUE: Your view of Christ becomes God’s view of you (Psa 2:7,12 and Mt 21:33-41)
