12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD. 13 Then spake Haggai the LORD’S messenger in the LORD’S message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD. 14 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, gover- nor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, 15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king. 13 12 Then said Haggai, 13 If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, 14 shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean. 1:12 The fear of the Lord deals with our willingness to take God’s Word over our own. It is choosing what God says (faith – Heb 11:6) over how we feel ( Prov 1:7 & 13:13, Exo 9:19-20, Deut 17:18-19, and Jere 26:18-19). 1:14 The LORD stirred up His people through preaching. As a result they finished the work of the Temple in only 23 days (vs. 15). 2:1 The 21 st of October ( seventh month ) was the seventh (and last) day of the Feast of Tabernacles (Lev 23:39-44). 2:3 According to I Kings 6:1-9:1, Solomon’s Temple was both “first and glorious.” Those who remembered the first Temple, before its destruction by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in 586 BC (II Ki 25:9), wept when they saw its replacement. 2:13 Whereas, the good that we do can only be observed - the bad that we do can be absorbed (It shall be unclean). Defilement (sin) can be transferred . People with colds don’t catch health; people with health catch colds. Disobedience is contagious. The disobedience of the people contaminated every Jew around them. That is why it’s so dangerous for a believer to hang around non-believers (II Cor 6:14) and/or backslidden Christians (I Cor 5:1-7 & 15:33). The question remains: Will your life be observed or absorbed ?
