DANIEL 3:22
DANIEL 4:8
1336
22 Therefore because the king’s com- mandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Me- shach, and Abednego. 23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. King Nebuchadnezzar encounters the MESSIAH (the SON OF GOD ) 24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counselors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. 25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the 1 SON OF GOD . 26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither . Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire. 27 And the princes, governors, and cap- tains, and the king’s counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the 2 fire had no power, nor was a hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them. 28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Me- shach, and Abednego, who hath sent his 3 ANGEL , and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. 29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort. 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon. Daniel 4 King Nebuchadnezzar’s proclamation to the world (Note - This event took place in the 43rd year of King Nebuchadnezzar’s reign) Date - c. 562 BC/AM 3438
1 Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all peo- ple, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; 4 Peace be multiplied unto you. 2 I thought it good to show the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me. 3 Howgreat are his signs! andhowmighty are his wonders! 5 HIS KINGDOM is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation. P Historical Note - Babylonian history continued c. 562 BC with the New Kingdom Period in which Evil-mero- dach (562-560 BC), Nebuchadnezzar’s son, assumed Babylon’s throne. Outside of Evil-merodach’s kindly act of releasing Jehoiachin, king of Judah, from prison, little is known of him. According to history, Evil-merodach’s sister’s husband, Nergal-Shar-Usur (560-556 BC) killed him and reigned in his stead. Four years later Nergal- Shar-Usur died and a noble named Nabonidus (556-539 BC), who married Nebuchadnezzar’s daughter, Nitocris, then began to rule. 3:25 Interestingly enough, as the flames “loosed” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from their bonds, they made no attempt to escape the fiery furnace. Why? Because they had rather be in their prison of flames with the KING OF KINGS than in the palace of fortune with the king (Isa 43:2).
