EZEKIEL 47:1

EZEKIEL 47:17

1320

1 1 Afterward 2 HE brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, 3 wa- ters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar. P 2 1 Then brought 2 HE me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side. P 3 And when the 4 MAN that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, 1 he mea- sured a 5 thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles. P 4 1 Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the wa- ters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. P 5 1 Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a 6 river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. P 6 And 7 HE said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? 1 Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river. P 7 Now when I had returned, behold, 1 at the bank of the river were very many 8 trees on the one side and on the other. P 8 Then said he unto me, 1 These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. P 9 1 And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whither- soever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish,

because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh. P 10 1 And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand upon it from En-gedi even unto En-eglaim; they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be ac- cording to their kinds, as the fish of the 9 great sea, exceeding many. P 11 But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt. P 12 1 And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: 10 it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their wa- ters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine. P The borders of the land 13 Thus saith the Lord GOD; 1 This shall be the border, whereby ye shall inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Is- rael: 11 Joseph shall have two portions. P 14 1 And ye shall inherit it, one as well as another: 12 concerning the which I lifted up mine hand to give it unto your fathers: and this land shall fall unto you for inheritance. P 15 1 And this shall be the border of the land toward the north side, from the great sea, the way of Hethlon, as men go to Zedad; P 16 1 Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazar-hatticon, which is by the coast of Hauran. P 17 1 And the border from the sea shall be Hazar-enan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north side.

47:1 Having completed his survey ( Afterwards ) of the sacrificial kitchens in the outer court (Ezk 46:19-24), Ezekiel was once more conducted by the SPIRIT to the door of the Temple. There he envisioned water flowing from the corner where the south wall of the porch and the east wall of the temple joined. What begins as a trickle (vs 1), flows like a stream under the walls (vs 2), as it broadens and deepens into a river (vs 3-7) all the way to the Dead Sea (vs 8-12). The fact that Ezekiel’s river increases in depth and volume so quickly clearly points to a miraculous action. NOTE – This vision of a new river is repeated by David (Psa 46:4 – c. 1035 BC), Joel (Joel 3:18 – c. 865 BC), Zechariah (Zech 13:1 & 14:8 – c. 518 BC) and John (Rev 22:1-2 – c. AD 96). 47:7 Having returned to the temple mount, Ezekiel noticed luxuriant trees that God had miraculously grown in fulfillment of Isaiah 60:13. 47:8 Once these waters, which flow from the Temple, run into the Dead Sea, the sea miraculously becomes alive ( healed ). Everything about the Millennium will be “miraculous.” NOTE – The point behind verses 1-12 is to remind us of the fact that water is spiritual; it’s miraculous ( Gen 1:6b ), especially when controlled by the SON ( Mal 4:2 and Jn 4:4-14).
