Leland Crawford in Pulpit Helps magazine notes: We look with horror at the pictures of the Jews who were sacrificed by Hitler to try to create a super race. We even have a museum in Washington, D.C. dedicated to those who died. The holocaust which has taken place in America since abortion was legalized in 1973 makes Hitler’s plan pale by comparison. Since 1973 there have been more than 36 million abortions. 5 2. the HIV virus (the killer virus that leads to the AIDS disease) As a matter of fact, we have ten times as many people with AIDS and the HIV virus in America as the second leading nation in the world, Uganda. About one out of every 270 Americans has the HIV virus. 3. the highest cancer rate in the world Statistically, four out of every ten men and three out of every ten women will get cancer. The average American watches five hours of television a day. If you say, “I don’t watch the crazy thing,” think how much some people are watching to bring the average to five hours a day. Ted Bundy, who was electrocuted in Florida for killing 36 plus women from 1974-1978, was interviewed the night before he was executed and asked why he murdered and raped all those women–so many, he lost track of the number. He said, “Well, there were four things that caused me to do this: movies, television, videos, pornography.” Ted Bundy once admitted: “There’s no question about it. The FBI’s own study on serial homicide shows that the most common interest among serial killers is pornography. Well-meaning, decent people will condemn the behavior of a Ted Bundy, while they’re walking past a magazine rack full of the very kinds of things that send young kids down the road to be Ted Bundys. But I’ll tell you, there are lots of other kids playing in the streets around this country today who are going to be dead tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day and month, because other young people are reading the kinds of things that are available in the media today.” 6 America also leads the world in ( Prov 14:34 ): divorce , murder , suicide , illegal drug use , single-parented families , the use of credit cards and credit spending , and foreign debt . Pastor Joe Wright, senior pastor at Central Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas was right about America when he offered the following “Prayer of Repentance” in January of 1996 before the Kansas House of Representatives: Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and seek your direction and guidance. We know your Word says, “Woe to those who call evil good,” but that’s exactly what we’ve done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and inverted our values. We confess that we have ridiculed the absolute truth of your Word and called it moral pluralism. 4. drunk-driving fatalities 5. spending on education 6. the highest-paid athletes in the world 7. watching television
We have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism. We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have neglected the needy and called it self-preservation. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused power and called it political savvy. We have coveted our neighbors’ possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will, to openly ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen” 7 NOTE - This was a version of a prayer written in 1995 by Bob Russell, who had offered it at the Kentucky Governor’s Prayer Breakfast in Frankfort. Erwin Lutzer in Where Do We Go From Here? notes: It’s gone. Remember when Francis Schaeffer told us that some day we would wake up and find out that the America we once knew was gone? That day is here . We have crossed an invisible line and there are no signs that we are capable of turning back. 8 1 Froese, Arno. 119 Most Frequently Asked Questions About Prophecy , Columbia, SC, The Olive Press. 2003.
