10:24 God’s people are continually reminded to view their problems in light of God’s “promises” ( be not afraid of the Assyrian ). 10:28 The “cities” listed in verses 28-32 were smaller cities between Samaria and Jerusalem that were eventually taken by Assyria’s army. most wrathful (I Thess 5:9, Isa 24:1-14,17-20 & 26:20, Zeph 3:8 and Rev 12:12), and destructive time this earth has ever known (I Thess 5:3, Jere 30:5-8, Isa 66:7-8, Dan 12:1 and Mt 24:12-24,26,29,33-34). 11:1 Isaiah predicted that the tree of David would be reduced to a stump, the meaning behind “ out of the stem (or, stump) of Jesse ,” and that a “shoot” or “sprout” ( ROD ) would come forth out of the stump before it would flourish again. 11:4 Subject Head Officially, the DAY OF THE LORD ( Wrath – I Thess 5:2 and Rev 6:5,6-8a ) will begin when the Antichrist sets himself up as God in Jerusalem midway through the Tribulation (Dan 9:27 & 12:11, Rev 13:5-8 and II Thess 2:3-4), and will encompass 3½ years (Dan 7:25 & 12:7,11, Lk 21:24 and Rev 11:2 & 12:6,14 & 13:5) of the darkest (I Thess 5:2,4 and Isa 13:9-10), Second Coming in order to set up His 1000-year Millennial Kingdom (Rev 19:11-20:6). 11:4 This phrase ( But with righteousness ) deals with the characteristics of CHRIST’S Kingdom (Isa 11:4-16 and Gen 13:15 ). 12:1 a Isaiah goes from prophet to psalmist here ( I will praise thee ), and the hymn that follows is much like the hymn Moses constructed in Exodus 15. It is a hymn of praise in anticipation of Christ’s Kingdom.
