SONG OF SOLOMON
an ungrateful heart ( Deut 28: 15- 47 -68). 2. Socialization with the wrong crowd ( Isa 2:6 -9)
It seems like such a “little thing” in a relationship to socialize with the wrong crowd, and yet hanging with the wrong kind of people is one of the “little things” that becomes a “big thing” in ruining that relationship (II Cor 6:14-18/I Cor 15:33). 3. Failure to keep a spiritual schedule ( Isa 1: 10- 17 ) It seems like such a “little thing” in a relationship to stay on a spiritual schedule, and failing to maintain a spiritual schedule is one of the “little things” that becomes a “big thing” in ruining that relationship ( Lev 23:2 ). 2:16 The Shulamite girl knew that she was but one of over 140 plus women in Solomon’s life (SOS 6:8); but that didn’t matter to her, as long as she was His ( and I am his ). We have no idea how many creations the Triune Godhead created besides the free-willed creations called angels ( Ezk 28:15 ) and humans ( Gen 1:26a ). C.S. Lewis pointed this fact out in his work called The Chronicles of Narnia where he introduced a variety of creatures in God’s universe to his readers. Although we have no idea how many more creations there are in God’s universe(s), what we do know is that there are probably a lot more that we think there are considering the variety of creatures God created just on planet earth. Zoologists inform us that there are approximately 8.7 million species of animals on earth (give or take 1.3 million) – 6.5 million being found on land and 2.2 million dwelling in the ocean depths. And that’s just the ones we’ve discovered over the last six thousand years of human history. According to those in the know, 86% of all land species and 91% of all sea creatures have yet to be discovered. Which means: If their analysis is correct, then there are still approximately 37 million more species of land animals and approximately 21 million more species of ocean dwellers that have yet to be accounted for. All we know for the moment is that there are over;
1. 100,000 species of mollusks 2. 40,000 species of crustaceans 3. 20,000 species of fish 4. 5,000–15,000 species of mammals 5. 10,000 species of sponges 6. 9,000 species of birds 7. 8,000 species of reptiles 8. 5,400 species of amphibians 9. 1,000,000–30,000,000 species of insects
Point being: God is a busy Being with unlimited power and an infinite imagination. Fred Carpenter pointed this fact out in one of his Mars Hill Trilogy films called Moment of Truth where he introduced to his viewers a variety of creatures throughout God’s universes. Hence, there is no doubt but that God has created other creations other than angels and humans that happen to be meaningful to Him and His eternal purpose. The question is: Can we (who are His) be content knowing we are but a “shared interest” throughout His universe(s)? The fact that God loves us enough to create us ( Gen 2:17a ) and share us with the rest of His creation throughout His universe(s) should be ample enough reason to react the same unselfish way that the Shulamite bride did: My beloved is mine, and I am his … Jesus said in John 10:16: And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. The Jewish disciples were asked to share their SAVIOR with Gentiles ( other sheep ). Are you willing to “share” Jesus with all who know Him throughout His universe(s), or do you want to hoard Him all for yourself? 3:1 Those of us who truly love CHRIST “dream of His return” ( By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul love ). There is great reward, here ( I Jn 3: 2- 3 ) and in the hereafter ( II Tim 4: 7- 8 and Rev 4:10 ), for such dreaming. 3:2 The delay in her beloved’s return awakens her ( I will rise now ) and causes her to search the streets where she knows she will find the watchers (those who know the KING and where to find Him – Ezk 3:17). NOTE – Those who watch (for not all the Church watches – Mt 24:36-44 and Rev 3:1-3) look for the watchers (those who keep an eye out for the return of the KING ). 3:3 If you’re truly searching for the KING , the watchman (preachers) will find you ( The watchmen that go about the city found me ) and help you. That is why the watchman are there (Heb 13:17). 3:4 This statement ( I held him, and would not let him go ) is reminiscent of Mary Magdalene ( Jn 20: 11- 17a ), who depicts the real Church and the Church’s longing to keep the SAVIOR near at all times (Rev 22:20). 3:5 Both the Shulamite’s brothers (depicting families – SOS 1:6) and the daughters of Jerusalem (depicting women – SOS 2:7) are warned (I charge you) not to cause division (that ye stir not up) between the union of the KING and His bride (the Church). The reason they are warned is because both the world (depicted by the Shulamite’s brothers – I Jn 2:15 ) and religion (depicted by the daughters of Jerusalem – Rev 17:3 -9) love to disrupt the unity that the KING wants to have with His bride; and because they do, they will both pay dearly for it (Rev 17-18). 3:6 We know this is speaking of Solomon. But who else does this remind you of? According to Psalm45 :1- 8a , there is ANOTHER who is coming out of the wild blue with a sweet smell ( perfumed with myrrh ). Like Solomon, sweet JESUS is coming again (Rev 19:11-16). How sweet is that going to be ( Mt 2:11 )!
