Chapter Sixteen

Discovery!

“ T her e it is, Henry! Dead ahead!” The building loomed larger than life. It stood out like an oasis in a desert. It didn’t seem to fit in its surroundings, but there it was, just like before, but clearer now because of the better weather. As we moved closer Henry slowed the motor down. The boat now rested quietly lower in the water as the motor came to an idle. The lake was now somewhat inviting, not like before. Cranes and other waterfowl were resting along the juts of ground standing just above the water. “Well, Son, there’s you’re building. Let’s go have a look-see and turn this thing around and get home as soon as possible. I’m a little uncomfortable about being out here. We don’t know who owns this place or exactly what it is." "Besides that, since the waters have calmed down, some Bayou folks that live in these parts might come up this way, and they don’t take kindly to snoopers and thieves." “Yes sir,” I replied. “If anyone asks, I’ll just tell them who I am and that we came up here to see if anyone needs s ome help.” “Yeah, that will really work with these people. Areporter," Henry said, and then sneered, “I thought you knew these people. I do, and that’s what I’m tellin' you. I don’t get this far inland and some of these folks out here aren’t very friendly . Some would just as soon use us as target practice or some sadistic entertainment, and then feed you to the gators.” “I get it Henry," I said, "but I came to get a story and I’m determined to do so. I’m not going home
