of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.”’ (1) This verse forever settled the issue that Christ was the King/Messiah. Later in the psalm he heard a further astounding proclamation by the Father to the Son: ‘The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”’ (4) The book of Hebrews explains this to mean that Jesus is the priest of a whole new, eternal order of worship that is higher and better than the sacrifices of Moses’ Law.
The musical, prophetic gift gave birth to the age of the prophets in Israel and prepared the way for the coming Messiah and the fullness of the Kingdom of God. The prophetic process of writing inspired music and words most likely took place in private times of worship as well as the public Tabernacle ministry. Either way, David becomes a model for the Spiritual Song to the aspiring Christian worshipers in our day. Imagine hearing these themes being sung by David and/or his worship leaders as you approached Mount Zion’s tent of praise:
