To ‘give’ means ‘place an object or idea in the possession or control of another, implying… a purpose for the exchange.’ 5 The Lord is gracious and willingly gives ‘His Song’ to those who present their lives a living sacrifice to Him. ‘By day the L ORD directs his love, at night his song is with me —a prayer to the God of my life.’ 6 Ps 42:8. This psalm was written by Heman, one of the prophetic singers who had fled to the wilderness during the rebellion of David’s son, Absalom. He is depressed yet receives a prayer song from the Lord in the night of his greatest trials. It has encouraged countless generations of readers with its gentle light. ‘ And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. ’ 7 Rev 14:3 Here the new song means ‘ recent in time, previously unknown, something different .‘ 8 It was not previously known to any of them as it had just come into being. When the passage says ‘no one could learn the THE UNLEARNED SONG-
