Chapter Twenty-Two

Spiritual Fathers and Mothers

The ultimate goal of the Elijah movement is to reveal the father

heart of God and His desire for an eternal family. It was always

God’s desire to see physical families reflect God’s spiritual

family. Family is the heart of both human and divine community.

Today we live in a generation that has not been well fathered,

if it has been fathered at all. This means we have people

walking around who have never known a father ’ s love,

direction, or had his affirmation that gives the emotional

inheritance that imparts identity and a sense of belonging.

Jesus came to introduce us to the Father (Matt. 6:9) - revealing

how God wants us to be His sons and daughters (Rom. 8:23).

By faith we are adopted into His divine family (Rom. 8:15-16)

and we receive an inheritance along with Jesus as God’s

children (Rom. 8:17). Through the salvation Jesus gained for

us, we become part of the “household or family” of God. (Eph. 2

:19) The Greek word used for household is “Oikos” meaning

the nuclear and extended family we are born to or adopted into.

The Holy Spirit when He comes into our hearts brings the deep

experience of “abba father”. This is an intimate term referring

to God as our spiritual daddy. In our salvation we experience
