Chapter Twenty Formation of Movements

When God promised me that I would see a greater movement

than the Jesus movement, I did not fully realize what He was

saying.

As I have come to better understand the Great Commission ’s

full meaning, that we are to disciple and baptize nations, God

began opening my eyes to the need of spiritual movements to

achieve this goal.

Even though I was caught up in the Jesus movement I did not

understand what God had done. It was not until years later that

I came to realize that the Jesus movement was worldwide in its

impact touching the lives of millions. It was passed on by word

of mouth, radio, TV and through traveling uncountable sandal

wearing, long hair, holes in their jeans missionaries. There was

no way such a phenomenon could have been orchestrated or

tracked. It was an explosion of people going everywhere

gossiping and living out the gospel.

My first real understanding of the spiritual dynamics of faith

movements came years later through the ministry of the U.S.
