The Royal Chef At Home: Easy Seasonal Entertaining
mother of invention, I've embraced aeroponic gardening. During a family trip to Disney World I toured Epcot’s Living With The Land, and the world’s largest hydroponic showcase. As I rode through a supersize green house on a little boat I was amazed to see towers and towers of fruit and vegetables growing and all without soil. I started researching hydroponic gardening and found a company that made tower gardens. These are vertical growing systems for the home that use aeroponics - an advanced form of hydroponics that grow plants in an air and mist environment using water and liquid
nutrients but no soil. The solution is pumped to the top of the tower and then cascades down on to the roots of the fruit and vegetables. Using this vertical growing technique, I can boost the amount of food grown in my modest garden by a good deal. Best of all, between my tower garden and my regular beds, the view from my kitchen window in January is positively elysian. I suspect I wouldbe a gardener even if I wasn’t a chef. The whole cycle, from seed to delicious fruit and vegetables, is a daily reminder of nature’s timeless wonder andmakes me grateful for every budding flower I see.
