fell off into the sink leaving me holding a can of mush and having to go back to the store for more. Then there was a salad to go with the turkey, not so surprising except when I checked out the ingredient list. This was a black bing cherry salad with Coca-Cola and canned cherries and canned mandarins and everything else in the pantry that still had a good sell by date! Don’t get me started on the mashed sweet potatoes with melted marshmallows on top. I couldn’t wait to get home to a sensible lamb stew and mashed potatoes. While I really try to be quite ecumenical about food, preferring for us all just to get along, that Thanksgiving set me back several years in attempting my own household celebration. Now, nineteen years later, I am a master at Thanksgiving lunch and if you promise not to tell anyone, I have to admit, once Kelly arrives home from college and the family is all together, it is truly one of my favorite meals of the year. Below are a few of my family’s favorite Thanksgiving dishes. I hope they become your family’s favorites too.
