The Life of Christ

• Eccl. 7:2 says it is better to visit the house of mourning than the house of feasting.

• Rom. 12:15 exhorts us to weep with those who weep.

When we have gone through troubles of our own, we then become candidates to minister comfort to those who encounter similar troubles (2 Cor. 1:4).

• God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God (2 Cor. 1:4).

Mt. 5:5 “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.”

To understand gentleness (NASB) or meekness (NKJV) is to observe the life of Moses, the meekest man in all the world according to Num. 12:3.

• The events that surrounded that statement illustrate the attributes of this profound character quality.

• When accused by Miriam and Aaron regarding his Ethiopian wife, Moses did not attempt to defend himself, but rather entrusted his defense to the Lord.

• As a result, it was Moses who was vindicated, while his accusers were humiliated.

“The meek inherit the earth.”

At the same time Moses had no problem when standing up for what was right.

• Before Pharaoh, his iron-clad assertiveness came through each time he said, “Let My people go!”

Mt. 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

Perhaps one of the most blessed states of life is to remain hungry and thirsty for righteousness.

• This means our motivation for God remains high!

We all hunger for something.

• Lk. 1:53 reads, “He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty.”

• Our hunger and thirst for righteousness continually motivates us to remain spiritually sharp and on the cutting edge for God.

Mt. 5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

• Mercy means to not receive what we duly deserve.

• God is highly merciful to us and in turn expects us to be merciful to others.

• If we choose to be merciful to others, we then position ourselves to also receive mercy from God as well as other people.
