The Life of Christ
Mt. 12:20 “A BATTERED REED HE WILL NOT BREAK OFF,
A bruised reed refers to one already broken inside .
• An example is found in Ex. 6:9: “…but they would not heed Moses, because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage. ”
• An already hurting person doesn’t need a strong challenge but rather a gentle word of love and encouragement.
Mt. 12:20 “AND A SMOLDERING WICK HE WILL NOT PUT OUT, UNTIL HE LEADS JUSTICE TO VICTORY.”
A smoking flax is a dim burning wick.
• The idea is the same; too strong a blow will extinguish the flame that barely stays alit.
