The Life of Christ
Mk. 1:25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”
Why doesn’t Jesus allow these demons to join in the announcement of His Messiahship?
• The demon had just stated for all to hear — " I know who You are — the Holy One of God!’”
• That job was left for John the Baptist and the voice of the Father.
• Jesus issues a gag order on this devil, not allowing the liar to even mention His Lordship.
• Also, had Jesus allowed it, it could have been used by the Pharisees to further prove that His powers were the result of Beelzebub, prince of the devils.
Mk. 1:26-27 And throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice, and came out of him. 27 And they were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”
This is Jesus’ first recorded exorcism.
• For that matter, it is the first exorcism in the entire Bible; there was never an exorcism in the Old Testament, since no one had the authority to cast out a demon.
• This is the first exorcism ever because this ministry was reserved only for the Messiah!
• So far Jesus has performed three different types of miracles:
1. Water into wine — miracle of nature. 2. Child healed in Cana — miracle of physical healing 3. Demon cast out — miracle over demonic powers
• Each miracle corresponds to the three major components of the Genesis curse: earth, man, the devil.
SECTION 49
Mk. 1:28-29 And immediately the news about Him went out everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee. And immediately after they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
When that exorcism took place, the word IMMEDIATELY shot forth into all of Galilee and beyond — this was a sensational breakthrough!
• Never before had a demon been cast out of a person!
• A hysteria broke forth in Galilee pulling thousands of people from every direction to the house of Peter where Jesus was staying.
Brothers Simon and Andrew apparently lived together, along with Simon's wife and possibly his mother-in-law.
• It is important for us to recognize that Peter, the “alleged” first pope, was married rather than celibate. If celibacy was to be a requirement, why didn’t Roman Catholicism not choose John or
