The Life of Christ

• Before entering ministry, Jesus is likened to a polished shaft (arrow). Before the Father could shoot the arrow, it had to be perfect; a single aberration would veer the arrow just slightly but tragically off course.

• The second half of verse 2 shows that once the arrow was ready, it was still hidden within the quiver until the appropriate time; Jesus had to learn to wait.

• Jesus may have been ready at age 26, but He still had to wait as there was one more requirement.

• According to the law you were not allowed do perform the service of the tabernacle until you were 30 years old (Num. 4:23). “From thirty years old and above, even to fifty years old, you shall number them, all who enter to perform the service, to do the work in the tabernacle of meeting” (Num. 4:23). In that culture, a man didn’t have credibility until he was at least 30 years old; John the Baptist was 30 when he began to baptize; Joseph was 30 when he became the Administrator over Egypt (Gen. 41:46).
