The Life of Christ

APPENDIX: STUDY QUESTIONS, SET 2

1. Sections 11-23

• Mt. 1:19: When Joseph considered divorcing Mary upon finding out that she was pregnant, would that mean that she would also be stoned to death? Explain the reason for your answer.

• What was the Star that led the magi to Jerusalem?

• Lk. 2:24: Use scripture to prove that Jesus grew up in a middle-class household, and then explain why the Father ordained it that way:

• Lk. 2:21: Do some Google research and come up why the eighth day is the best time to perform circumcision.

2. Sections 24-36

• Mt. 3:15: What was the first spiritual act that Jesus did in starting His ministry, other than get baptized?

• Mt. 3:17: Compare what the Father said from heaven when Jesus was baptized from all of the relevant Gospel accounts and summarize your conclusion.

• Lk.4: What were the very first words recorded in scripture that the devil said in the Old Testament and in the New Testament? What can we conclude from this?

• In Lk. 3:3 we read that John preached the baptism of repentance for the "remission of sins." Heb. 9:22, however, says that without the shedding of blood there is no remission. John's baptism did in fact remit sins, but how did it satisfy Heb. 9:22?

3. Sections 37-50

• Jn. 4:4: In about 100 words, why did the Jews hate the Samaritans?

• Jn. 4:6: Why would the woman from Samaria come to the well at the sixth hour?

• Which scripture in Gen. 49 foretells Jesus’ encounter with this woman in Samaria? Write out the entire verse, rather than just giving its address. Then explain how that verse relates to this moment.

• Jn. 4:35: What was Jesus trying to communicate to the disciples when He said, “Do you not say, “There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest !”?

4. Sections 51-62

• Mk. 1:40: Do some research and find out three things which amazed you about how lepers were treated in Jesus’ day.

• Lk. 5:20-23: Can we expect to be forgiven each time when we recognize what Jesus did on the cross for us? In the same manner can we expect to be healed each time when we recognize what Jesus did on the cross for us? Are both of these promises the same? Explain. Also provide the verse in Isaiah which links the two together.

• Lk. 5:27: How was Matthew’s tax collecting duties different from other tax collectors in Israel?

• Give two examples found in the Old Testament of when the Sabbath Law was clearly broken, but justified because of a “higher reason.”
