The Life of Christ
Rather than pay any attention to "His rules," she continues her desperate effort to convince Jesus to deliver her daughter — she prostrates herself in worship and follows up with a heartfelt cry, “Lord, help me!”
• No more manipulations; no more strong-arming disciples; just a cry of desperation —“Help me,” all in the ambiance of worship.
• If there is anything that has historically proven to move the hand of Jesus is heartfelt worship paired with a desperate cry for help!
Her “chin lies on the dirt floor.”
• Her apparent tears soak the ground holding up her face, turning it to mud.
“Lord, help me!”
•
• Everything within Jesus’ compassionate nature yearned to issue her request, but “no,” He must remain strong — all heaven is now glued to this test of wills.
Mt. 15:26 And He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”
Jesus was quite confident that this should put this distraction to rest!
• For the third time, Jesus refuses to answer her request; and to top it off, He classifies her she as a dog.
• In that day a dog was a despicable title for anyone; in certain instances, the term denoted a mere prostitute.
• After being called a dog, most women would gather up their dignity and stomp off in protest of being insulted.
• Her faith, however, was larger than her pride! Her love for her daughter demanded that she carefully hold her tongue at this highly critical moment.
Mt. 15:27 But she said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
Her comeback was brilliant! "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs are allowed to lick up the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."
• Suddenly, the Son of God, the Omniscient One, Wisdom Incarnate, has been matched!
Mt. 15:28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; be it done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.”
Her perfect response not only unlocked heaven but changed ongoing kingdom policy!
• She first had to humble herself and admit that she was nothing but a dog.
• But then, reaching deep within, she tapped into her maternal instinct to do whatever it took to preserve her daughter.
