The Life of Christ

Mk. 5:40 And they began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions and entered the room where the child was.

Their laughter unmasked the emptiness of their sincerity.

• To prevent the contamination of unbelief, He put them all out.

• Miracles at this level require a high unity of belief.

• He took with Him His three strongest disciples, along with the parents.

• Jesus and His three disciples provided the faith; Jairus and his wife provided the love (Gal. 5:6). For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love (Gal. 5:6).

• Later in Acts 9:40 Peter would also put everybody out before raising Dorcas from the dead.

Mk. 5:41-42 And taking the child by the hand, He said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise!”). 42 And immediately the girl rose and began to walk; for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded.

The circle of those completely astonished widens as the moments grew on.

• It began with the prayer team in the room. Soon, word reached the mourners, who sent it rocketing throughout the community.

In order to minimize hysteria from breaking out, Jesus gave strict orders not to tell anyone (vs. 43).

• We can only question how seriously those words were taken.

SECTION 97

Mk. 6:1 And He went out from there, and He came into His hometown; and His disciples followed Him.

As Jesus left Capernaum, He realized He would not be back, except for an occasional visit.

• His next stop would be His former hometown, the village of Nazareth.

Most of what those from Nazareth recalled was the typical modest family who ran a carpentry business.

• They remember Jesus always being quite astute at the synagogue, but what probably stood out just as much in people’s minds was His fine craftsmanship.

• How strange that He would unexpectantly just leave one day, with word returning about Him now becoming someone quite important.

By now, however, His fame has highly escalated, and everyone at home may have tried to forget the incident that occurred during His last visit.
