The Life of Christ

Mk. 5:29 And immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

No sooner had she touched the border of His garment that she knew instantly in her body that she was healed of her disease.

• No sooner, also, had she so touched the border of His garment that He knew, having “perceived in Himself,” that power had unexpectedly gone out from Him.

Mk. 5:30 And immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?”

Jesus knew who had touched Him, but He offered her the opportunity to confess.

• Verse 32 says, “He looked around to see the woman who had done this.”

• Jesus ’ question had caught the disciples off guard, according to verse 31. And His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” (Mk. 5:31).

• In Christendom today, many people come in contact with Jesus’ presence, but far less demonstrate additional faith to extract His power.

Mk. 5:31-33 And His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” 32 And He looked around to see the woman who had done this. 33 But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him, and told Him the whole truth.

Though healed, she hoped she wasn’t in trouble.

• She may have felt she somehow “stole” from Him.

• In obedience she fell down at His feet confessing all that took place.

Mk. 5:34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”

This is the only miracle in the Gospels that occurred without Jesus’ prior willful consent.

Her faith elicited an automatic miracle.

• Whether it was the sheer result of her extraordinary faith, or the fact that had she not been healed, Jesus would have become unclean, we don’t know.

• At any rate, twelve years of horrific suffering had come to a glorious end.

This miracle made the hem of Jesus’ garment a famous connection point for the release of His healing power (Mt. 14:26).

“…and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well” (Mt. 14:26).
