The Life of Christ

gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth, and take out the wicked from among the righteous, 50 and will cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

It has been estimated that approximately 24 species of fish have been found in the Sea of Galilee.

• Most of these fish are clean, while some are considered unclean, such as crabs and fish without scales or fins (Lev. 11:10).

• This parable likens the kingdom of God to a great net that over the centuries has brought in all sorts of “religious” people.

• Most have been sincere Christians; however, some have been associated with the name of Jesus as the result of heretical cults or family traditions; still others have appeared religious, but never been born again.

• At the end of the age the separation will occur; those who were not forgiven of their sins will be sent to eternal judgment.

SECTION 92

Mt. 13:51-52 “Have you understood all these things?” They said to Him, “ Yes. ” 52 And He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.”

As disciples we learn to develop a balance between experience and knowledge gained from our past, as well as what is fresh and directly from the throne.

• Those who minister primarily from the past can be dull and out of touch; whereas, those who neglect the ancient landmarks and focus only on the current, tend to be shallow. No one was more cutting-edge than Jesus, however, much of His New Testament teaching came directly from the Old Testament.
