At some point in all of this I was taken back to my memory of that day in Sunday School when the missionary came to visit our class at Oak Cliff Assembly of God Church. Were these the little children with skin darker than mine that I was called to? Bobby and I have always shared our calling, we believe He calls couples, He calls families to minister together. The Velarde family did a lot of ministry and impacted many people with very little means to operate off of. They walked in faith, trusting God for everything. Our hearts were telling us we needed to help them with the feeding of the school children. The solution was to buy supplies, make sure they had food to feed the children. We needed to rally people to help! We did what we could. We discovered another need during our trips to Tijuana. The house the Velarde family was living in was falling apart. This family had dedicated their life to serving Jesus in this little community and they had needs of their own. They never asked for anything for themselves, only for the church and community they served. Pastor Jesus Velarde had a story which needs to be told. Not only did he and Delia and their family lead a life of service to the Lord, but they also lived a life of persecution. Although they went through so much persecution and becoming outcasts of sorts God gave them victory and a very fruitful ministry.
