wouldn’t it be great if little Joni didn’t hook down on the corner – that wears real thin real fast.
“But then I began to realize, I’m the middle person between this girl and God the Father who I say I love and who I say is everything to me, and that I’ll give my life for. God the Father’s heart is broken because of this girl who is a prostitute. So the concept is not so much to help this girl but to heal the broken heart of God. I do it because I’m one of His kids.” Bobby says this with extra force; this is an important concept. Witnessing to prostitutes is intimidating. The threat of violence from pimps is there. Bobby has been threatened, though not attacked. And yet, Bobby finds himself and a partner (Bobby recommends witnessing in pairs) going up to pimps and talking to them because he sees them as God sees them. It also takes a lot of guts to stick your head into a car window and talk to customers. But Bobby does it because he knows how God’s heart breaks over minds trapped by lust. He asks them, “What if this was your daughter or sister?” I get the impression from listening to Bobby’s high speed talk and watching him shout about Jesus to dope dealers across the street that here’s a man not weighed down by his environment, but actually invigorated by it. “When I’m not on the street,” he says, “and I’m locked away watching TV, I think, “Yeah, sure I’m a Christian. So what?” “ But when I’m out here and some weird person is challenging me on the fact that Jesus might be real or not, I’d better know in my heart that He’s real or I’m not going to make it. He’s so real to me because every time I
