Street Stories - A Ringside Seat To Over 4 Decades Of Taking Jesus To The Streets Of The World
Many of those people had forwarded the videos and pictures to the police so they could use them as evidence against us. Evidently, some of them did not take to kindly to us preaching Jesus out in front of their demolished mosques. When the police showed Rudy one of the videos, they asked him, “Is this you in the video?” Rudy replied, “Oh, I don’t know if that is me. That guy looks a little heavy.” As they played videos and interrogated our team, several policemen were using phones to video everything we said in the interrogations. They even had the Bible that Rudy had underlined John 3:16 in. They had mountains of evidence against us. The police had drawn up papers for us to sign that were very troubling to us. One statement read, “When these men arrived here in Indonesia, they were in good condition.” I wondered, “What condition are we leaving in?” They also wanted us to sign a statement that said we would never come back to Indonesia again and preach The Gospel. We told the police there was no way we would ever sign those documents. We would never agree not to come back and preach Jesus. Never. Rudy walked out of the interrogation room and told me, “I need you to call the US Embassy in Jakarta.” He continued, “It is not looking too good for us in here.” I knew for Rudy to say that meant we needed help from our US Ambassadors to help resolve this crisis we found ourselves in.
