The word for offenses is the Greek word “ skandalon ” . It is from the same root for which we derive the word “scandal”. It means “the bait stick” or the “ trap stick ”. It is the device in a mousetrap that triggers the trap to spring shut (upon your head)! “ Skandalon ” itself isn’t the cheese… The cheese is the offense or wound ... When we bite (choose to let the offense lodge in your heart) it “springs” the trap straight down upon you! You have sprung the “skandalon” upon yourself and become trapped! Only sincere forgiveness can release you from the trap! Unforgiveness is one of the major causes for division in the Body of Christ and our personal relationships. The importance of recognizing this debilitating factor and establishing unoffended hearts towards God, and with each other, is critical to fulfilling our destiny and call of God. Many of the storms throughout your life will come as a result of offense . You must learn to master it (that is - give it to the Master), or it will master you!
“This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.” (Acts 24:16)
That is what David was doing in Psalm 7. He was deeply hurt and overwhelmed by the attack from this guy named Cush. He turned his pain and agony, into a lamentable, poetic, and worshipful plea unto the Lord through a “ shiggaion ” type psalm ( song) . You too can do the same if you try! It is a matter of the heart! It is a choice ! You either choose to forgive, or you choose not forgive! It may take prolonged worship, pouring
