Sing Into Your Storm
The earth trembled and the heavens poured, The clouds also poured water; The mountains gushed before the L ORD , This Sinai, before the L ORD God of Israel.” (Judges 5:3-5)
What Deborah is singing about is how God moved so mightily in Israel’s past, just as the Lord would faithfully do for them in their battle! How sweet it would have been for them to have sang this song beforehand , not just after the battle was over! For God did sent forth a plentiful downpour of rain from Heaven, so strong that it immobilized Sisera’s army and their chariots got stuck in the mud! As a result, the enemy ended up being routed and the victory secured!
“The kings came and fought, Then the kings of Canaan fought In Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo;
They took no spoils of silver. They fought from the heavens; The stars from their courses fought against Sisera. The torrent of Kishon swept them away, That ancient torrent, the torrent of Kishon.
O my soul, march on in strength! Then the horses’ hooves pounded, The galloping, galloping of his steeds. (Judges 5:19-22)
If only the prophetess Deborah had opened this song before the ensuing battle, it would have helped prepare (teach) a people to send for praise unto their God at the outset of any storm they may encounter during their life! Convincing them that they too can sing and open Heaven by calling upon the name of their God to arise as a Mighty Man of War!
