Sing Into Your Storm ~ Overcoming Adversity Through High Praise
not turn your face towards Jesus!” Take your eyes off of the storm (circumstances) and set them upon Jesus!” Instead of focusing on the problem , why not focus on the solution ? Jesus! We can see a wonderful example of this when we read in the Gospels how Peter, who was astonished to see the Lord walking on water out to their boat which had been tossed and turned in a storm out on the Sea of Galilee. Peter wanted to know if it was the Lord walking on the water. The Lord cried out to Peter that it was Him, but Peter asked the Lord if it was Him then command him to come and walk out on the water too! You know the story, Peter walked on water, until… his eyes fell off of Jesus and Peter started focusing on his circumstances. When he did that – he immediately began sinking! “And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid ; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.” (Matthew 14:28-32) Fear is the exact opposite of faith. Both are choices of the heart that can only be determined by us alone! It takes developmental practice to fully relinquish everything to God during a major storm in our lives, but the more we do, the stronger we grow and the more reliant on Jesus we become. So the answer to the question is, one camp chose fear , the other camp chose faith through reverent worship.
